Jesus Was A Socialist

05 Mar

theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

Republicans have turned this into a dirty word. A four letter dirty word. It’s almost as bad as the abortion word.

To be honest, I don’t know who I am talking about more. Republicans, or psycho Christians. I went to Catholic school and all I remember from Religion class was that Jesus was about giving, giving, giving. When you’re destitute, you still give that last dollar to someone even more destitute than you. So what am I missing here, religious people? You have turned giving into the most evil of gestures.

What I have witnessed since the 2008 Presidential campaign has been the most blatant form of hypocrisy that I have ever seen. Do as I say, not as I do – type of crap. And it all has to do with Religion, and thus, Republicans.

My early theory is this: I think these Republican politicians and pundits feel they can say whatever they want, because they can just go and confess their lies on Sunday. Okay that’s a little high-schoolish but I am astonished at their behavior. The Republicans who claim to be the most Religious, are the least Christ-like.

I find it stunning the brazen hatred towards poor people, and the working poor, by Republicans … and then claim to be Christian. That goes against EVERYTHING Jesus stood for. The fact that Republicans fought with all their might to make sure the wealthy got THEIR tax extensions, and now want to take away jobs and benefits from people, who on average, make about $50,000.00/year, is so NOT what Jesus would do.

Do not take advantage of a hired man who is poor and needy.” – Deuteronomy 24:14

Hmmm, that doesn’t sound like what Gov. Walker is doing in Wisconsin. Sure doesn’t sound like any Republican actually. Republicans love to talk about God and the Bible but they sure don’t want to live by it. Take Mike Huckabee for instance. Lately, he has been spewing such judgement and almost hate-filled venom that it’s hard to believe he’s an actual ordained Baptist Minister. I mean does he even listen to what he is preaching? What is he preaching?

Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” – Matthew 19:21

I wonder if Mr. Huckabee did a sermon on this GOSPEL verse. Probably not, since he now has a PSA out about repealing Health Care. Yes, Mike Huckabee did a PSA, or infomercial, getting people to call their Congress reps. and tell them to repeal Health Care. Nice. He wants people to be denied coverage if they have pre-existing conditions. He wants children to be denied coverage because of their pre-existing conditions. He wants you to NOT be able to choose your own physician. In reality, he wants the poor to continue to suffer. No other explanation. Because that’s what Jesus would want. Jesus would want a family of four to go into medical debt and lose everything they own. Right Mike? Right.

The attack on the poor and working poor with this new Congress is terrifically disgusting. The lying that’s going on is breathtaking. Starting with calling their Health Care Repeal a ‘job-killing’ bill. That’s a lie. Lying about what Planned Parenthood does. Another lie. John Boehner said, “Over the last two years since President Obama has taken office, the federal government has added 200,000 new federal jobs,” That’s a lie. I could go on. But would Jesus approve of all this lying?

Again with Mike Huckabee, doing an interview and talking about how President Obama grew up in Kenya. LIE. Then he back-tracked and said he misspoke. Bull. You don’t misspeak during a whole interview. I wonder if confession will help him sleep better at night.

I guess I want to conclude with this question: How do you Republicans sleep at night? How do you justify your actions, and also consider yourselves Christian? Everything the Republicans stand for, these days, is against everything Jesus stood for. You do get that, don’t you? Any 2nd grader in Religion class can put that together. “Mommy, I thought Jesus was about giving, and helping your neighbor, and sharing.” – How should a mother answer that AND vote Republican? Well if she’s a hypocrite like the current Republican line-up … she’ll answer just fine.

Plus all the hatred towards anyone who is not white and not Christian. Because Jesus hated anyone who didn’t look like him. I would like to see any Republican politician/pundit defend that. Tell me how Jesus would hate Muslims. Tell me how Jesus would hate Jews. Oh wait, Jesus WAS a Jew. Go figure.

Plus you have Republican Governors defending KKK members. Nice. Republican Congressmen attacking women’s right. Defending rapists. Did you ever think there would be a day in America, in 2011, that people voted in rapist sympathizers? It makes me physically ill. I really wish these so-called Christian Republicans would actually observe their own behavior, and realize that it’s so NOT what Jesus would do. Mother Teresa LIVED among the poor. I can guarantee NO Republican politician or pundit will ever dedicate their lives to that. Guarantee.

“Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise, says the LORD, I will protect them from those who malign them” – Psalm 12:5

He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who is kind to the needy.” – Proverbs 14:21

He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” – Proverbs 14:31

He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward him for what he has done.” – Proverbs 19:17

These are from your precious Bible you love to live by. Only selectively though. THESE Bible quotes are meaningless to Republicans because THE ONLY Bible verse that matters to them is the one that says, “Man Shall Not Lie Down With Man”. Right? That’s the only one Conservatives can come up with and shove down everyone’s throats. Yet the verses telling you to give to the poor, don’t turn your back on the poor, well, those are useless to Conservatives. It doesn’t help their greed and doesn’t help them personally, and more importantly, politically.

I have to agree with you again on most points. But, being your daddy, I have watched this brewing since Reagan. Once the Religious Right had their foot in the door with Reagan, they were NEVER going to remove it. Now that they have power, they of course will use it, and abuse it. Of that there can be no doubt.

You want to know why I am an Atheist? The of the ‘change’ for me started during the Bush Admin. I remember saying to myself, “How can they call themselves Christians, and behave like that?” i.e. Bush AND Cheney. All the lying, deceiving, scheming, cover-up. It was deplorable. That actually started it for me. It allowed me to open my eyes to the evils of organized Religion. Once you do that, it’s all happiness from there.

Jesus was not a socialist as he did not force anyone to do anything they did not want to do and he did not take forom others wthat which was not his. It is a shame you didn’t learn anything from your religious classes. Charity is the same thing as social justice. Flawed Christians behaving in a flawed manner is a lame excuse for becoming an atheist. The only person responsible for that is you and you alone. You probably shouldn’t quote from teh Bible if the only reason to do so is as a weapon against others.

Also, read the stories of the Good Samaritan and the annointing of Jesus by Mary. The people walking by the man on the road and Judas, those are our politicians and their corupt implemenataion of social justice. Go tour the poor sections of our largest cities (all run and controlled by Democrats) and go see how social justice is working out for the poor and downtrodden. Go live in a government run housing project for a week or so and, if you survive, let us know how those who receive the largesse of a caring government are faring.

Strike a nerve, Scott? Jesus didn’t hang out with the rulers, the upper echelons, or anyone with any real power in that region. He hung out with the welfare riffraff– you know, like the ones in those Liberal hellholes you cited. Hookers. Lepers. The unclean and the poor and the mad. He had women disciples, which didn’t make it past a certain point in the histories of the world, but nevertheless, he had them. And I’ve lived in these poor neighborhoods, in Las Vegas and Southern California and felt more welcome and accepted than in any ‘ good neighborhood ‘. I lived in ‘ those places ‘ longer than a week. I found my neighbors to be generous, cranky, loving, hard-working, going back to school, elderly, infirm, healthy…just people. Not demons or violent thugs.

And I’ve never heard of any true socialist system of government [ unless you’re confusing a fascist regime with a socialist one, which happens all the time, they are not the same, hello! ] taking forcibly from one group and giving to another group– unless you were talking about getting some bang for your buck via taxes. Wanting your tax dollars to go for hookers and blow for the good politicians of DC instead of Head Start? I lived down the road from DC, in Annapolis; those people loved drugs and young hookers, as do a lot of people in power.

And what was your point about the Good Samaritan? Cause…I’m sorry, am I missing something? Cause…right there, he took care of his fellow human, fixed him up, took him to an inn, gave coins for his care…how is that a social fail? Or did you mean we should like the people who ignored the hurt bleeding guy or be more like the thieves who beat the crap out of him? Taking care of other people isn’t a gateway to complete inertia on the part of the cared for, that’s so simple-minded and easy and makes for a good campaign slogan…if it were true, then mothers would be a giant glaring gangrene-infested tumor on our species. They take care of the helpless and weak and give them money…!!

I think the author made her point several times over. Jesus didn’t give a shit about the rich and already-got-our-stuff class. He advocated caring for others, including the outcasts and thrown away and unclean into society, he made us actually see them, feel for them, know them, that they were not an ‘ other ‘ but a ‘ part-of ‘.

But this highly theatrical, for-show-only Christianity being lobbed about is getting ridiculous. They’re, these Jesus is My Lord and I have a Handgun in my Pants politicians such as Rick Perry, Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin, Huckabee, etc etc and then some more etc’s, are not out among the great unwashed doing what they can to help, they’re not enacting laws that give everyone a fighting chance at a real life, they’re cyphers, charlatans and cheats. And yes, you can tar both sides with that. Everything is a photo-op and a push for a campaign and way to sway voters. There’s a disconnect. Real people have to live with the laws they write and pass with such unconscious or very conscious disdain. That would be the anti-abortion laws in many states trying to get passed or have been passed already, the new why weren’t you born lucky and rich laws…so many others that I just start ripping out my own hair for a snack. And only Christians can read the Bible and quote from it in arguments?

All three major religions that came out of this same desert stretch of lands– Judaism, Islam and Christianity…pretty much preach the same thing about doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. Luke 6:31– As you wish that men would do to you, do unto them. From the Talmud, Shabbat, 31a–That which is hateful unto you, do not impose upon others. And from Sunnah, [ Islam ], No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself.

I don’t trouble myself with the bible. The book’s only real claim to fame is that it is the best selling book of fiction ever written. It is marketed through the bias of organized religion. I am more interested in learning from the writings of Sam Harris – End of Faith – or – Irv Yallum – Starring at the Sun. Religion is just too toxic to all mankind!
